How to make truffle mac and cheese
This baked mac and and cheese recipe takes 10-minutes to put together, yes, you heard correctly. Actually, it may even take less time! The bow-tie pasta is a no-boil, which saves some time assembling.
Assemble. In a large baking dish, approx. 12×8. Add uncooked pasta, truffle oil, salt, pepper, garlic, and broth.
Mix. Gently toss everything together, being careful not to break the pasta.
Cover. Cover with foil and bake for 45-50 minutes.
Mix in Cheeses and cream. Remove the foil, and add heavy cream, and cheeses. Mix until it comes together and is nice and creamy. Garnish with Italian flat leaf parsley.
Ingredient Substitutions
Cheeses. If you have a specific cheese that you absolutely love, feel free to use it. Our only suggestion is to use freshly grated cheese. Pre shredded cheese has anti caking agents, which causes curdling and sometimes a different texture. For dairy-free – use your favorite dairy-free cheese.
Pasta. Feel free to use any pasta shape that you like. We recommend any smaller shape pasta, such as elbow, or shells.
Heavy Cream. If you want to lighten this up, you can substitute with whole milk or a lower fat milk. Your favorite dairy-free milk works as well!
Truffle Oil. If you don't have truffle oil on hand and do not want to go out and buy any, feel free to keep out all together or add a touch of olive oil. Since truffle oil has a stronger flavor, you can add different flavor profiles to this mac and cheese, such as fresh herbs or seasonings.
What is truffle oil
Truffle oil is the newest "in" ingredient to use in cooking. It is oil infused with truffles, and no, not chocolate truffles! Essentially a truffle is a fungus that looks similar to a mushroom but it grows underground under specific trees. Every truffle varies based off of the tree that it is found.
The three most common oils include, black truffle oil, white truffle oil and french truffle oil. Truffles can be pretty expensive and could cost up to $40 for an ounce!
How to use truffle oil
Truffle oil is usually used as a finishing oil. It's common uses are in pastas, fries, pizzas or puréed foods, such as mashed potatoes.
What does truffle oil taste like
Truffle oil has a real earthy, gamy, and musky flavor. They are oaky, nutty, earthy, sweet.
Where to find truffle oil
You can find truffle oil in the specialty aisle at your local grocery store, or off of Amazon. We get our truffle oil from TerraMar Imports.
This pretty pasta is also from TerraMar Imports.
